Step Two: Obtain Your Learner's Permit
Driver education is a requirement in California and must be taught by a public or private high school or by a state-licensed driver's education school. Once the student has completed a state approved driver education course and they are at least 15 ½ years of age, they are eligible to obtain their learners permit. The student must complete a vision screening, as well as, a comprehensive driver knowledge test at their local DMV office.
Step Three: Obtain Your Driver's License
Once receiving their learner’s permit, the student driver is now eligible to complete 6 hours of Driver Training with a California Certified Driving Instructor.
In addition, the student will also complete 50 hours of supervised driving (with a minimum of 10 at night) with an adult 25 of age years or older.
Once these are complete and the student has held their permit for a minimum of 6 months, the student can now take their in-car driving exam and obtain their license through their local DMV office.
